Windows 11. Word will not tell me which version it is. Why is this hidden? I opened Outlook and Excel and both show the same Help function without the version.
Set paper size to 4x6 postcard, landscape. Some of the text is cut off, but there is plenty of white space around the edges of the printed text.
Change the margins to be smaller and it cuts off even more text.
What?? I make the margins smaller in Word, and it reduces the print area. That strikes me as absolutely backwards.
What settings must be used to get Word to utilize more of the printable space?

To determine the version of Word, or any Office product, you're using go to File -> Account. It will show you the general Office product information in the top right. If you look down from there you'll see a section called About ... which contains the actual build and version information.
As for taking up more room, the text is automatically adjusted to fit on the paper size given and taking into account the general expected margin of the page for printing. If you want to change this then change the indentation of the text. The default indentation is 0. If the value is negative then it takes up more space on the left/right/top/bottom. Note that this may cause the actual printed content to be cut off, depending on your printer.
To easily access and change this information then go to the View tab and enable the Ruler. Then you can adjust the ruler in the document directly rather than editing values in a textbox to get better accuracy.

Understood. So if the margins are decreased, the printing the expand to be closer to the edges. Word did exactly the opposite. I see that as bad software.

That strikes me as completely wrong. Tried a few settings and not what is needed. Now the indents are all set to zero and the middle sentences are indented. Oops, after more changes, the first few lines are indented. Oops again, select all the text and change the indents. That seems to work.

Did that. Changes to the ruler move the ends in tighter but not wider.
Go to View and select Print Layout.
After messing with that, I tried messing with margins, and getting something like is wanted. Then used ctl-P to print. It changed the layout and cut off text at the top. Problem! Since Word is in “Print Layout” it should not change the layout when the print mode is activated. But it very much did exactly that. To the point of being unusable.
This is not working well at all.
Is there any method by which someone can create an example document and provide it to a reader like me?
