Implications of 'Notified by Another Site Ownership Policy' Status in SharePoint Advanced Management

I hope I'm at the right place to ask this. Was recommended to do so by a MS community support specialist.

I'm testing the SharePoint Advanced Management site ownership policy on a dev M365 tenant. I wanted to try out different settings to test different outcomes, so I've run multiple simulations and activated policies a few times to see how the notifications look like. I've also deleted some policies and added new ones that target the same sites.

When I look at the latest report, most of the non-compliant sites in the report have a status of "Notified by another site ownership policy". This makes sense to me, since I had activated a policy before that sent notifications out for those sites. But I would like to know:

  • What can I expect happens with these sites? Will they receive new notifications from the new policy I sent out?
  • Is the deleted policy still "active" on those sites somehow?
  • Where is the policy's status information stored?

I consulted the documentation but couldn't find answers to these questions.

Thanks in advance :)

    Hi @Marcela Bovio

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

From my research, here is some information might answer your questions.

When a site has the status "Notified by another site ownership policy", it means that the site has already been targeted by a previous policy that sent out notifications.

    • So, if a site has that status within a certain duration (typically 30 days), it will not receive another notification from a different policy.   User's image
    • Once a site ownership policy is deleted in SharePoint Advanced Management, it is no longer active and does not apply to any sites, including those that were previously notified or affected by it.
    • The policy status is stored in Microsoft Purview:
Data Lifecycle Management focuses on content retention and deletion.
Audit Logs will contain records of the actions performed by these policies.
Policy Execution Report in SharePoint Advance Management.
